Paula Abdul and record label owner Jeff Bratton split

01/07/2012 by Olivia Allin

Paula Abdul and record label owner Jeff Bratton have broken up after a year and a half together.

"Paula and I split in November," Bratton told People magazine. "It was an amicable thing. But between the final months of X Factor and my responsibilities with [my label] Cascine, there was little time for us."

The couple met on an airplane in 2010 and lived bicoastal in Los Angeles and New York during the relationship.

"We're still close," Bratton continued. "And I'll always be grateful for the time we shared as a couple."

Abdul has been married twice, to actor Emilio Estevez from 1992 until 1994 and to clothing designer Brad Beckerman from 1996 until 1998.

Abdul recently reunited with her former "American Idol" co-host Simon Cowell for his new reality singing competition "The X Factor," which debuted in September.

In August, Cowell said that he brought Abdul on board, along with L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger, because it's like "owning a dog."

"It's like owning a dog and the dog will only sit next to its master," Cowell said of Abdul. "It's comfortable. If she's away from me, she pines. She's unhappy. She has to sit next to me."

The pair bonded on the set of "American Idol," and Cowell, who earned the nickname "Mr. Nasty" from British tabloids, told the weekly that he really warmed up to Abdul's personality.

"I like loopy," Cowell said. "I can be a bit loopy at times, and I can hang out with her socially because she gets on with my friends. We have a similar sense of humor and I tell her there are no rules on this show, so don't worry about how you want to behave."

The first season of "The X-Factor" wrapped in December, with contestant Melanie Amaro winning $5 million and a record deal with Epic Records.
