'Oz: The Great and Powerful' trailer debuts - See video
The trailer for the film "Oz: The Great and Powerful" made its debut at Comic-Con in San Deigo on July 12 and features glimpses from the world of Oz and the CGI technology used in the film.
The film stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz and is adapted from the L. Frank Baum novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." The trailer can be seen below.
"Oz: The Great and Powerful" also reunites Franco with director Sam Raimi, who helmed the original "Spider-Man" trilogy where Franco starred as Harry Osborn.
The film tells the origins of the Wizard of Oz, who is a character named Oscar Diggs and is played by Franco. Diggs is a small-time circus magician who is transported from Kansas to the world of Oz after a tornado. Once there he meets three witches.
Kunis plays the witch Theodora, while British actress Rachel Weisz from the "Mummy" movies portrays her character's sister, Evanora. Michelle Williams plays Glinda, the Good Witch. Kunis' character, Theodora, becomes evil after the wizard rejects her sexual advances.
Franco and Kunis starred together in the 2010 film "Date Night." Both rose to fame by appearing on comedy shows on television - Franco with "Freaks and Geeks" and Kunis with "That 70s Show."
"I think the really cool thing about this movie is - and maybe this franchise if it continues - is that there's a tendency in these big sort of huge movies to make the action bigger, make the explosions bigger and make the violence more intense and in this world you don't have to do that," Franco told OnTheRedCarpet.com at Disney CinemaCon on April 24, 2012. "It's strangely a movie for everyone that's still kind of cool and I like being a part of something like that."
"I cannot tell you what a great experience it was," Mila Kunis told us at CinemaCon. "Listen, anyone can tell you James and I are friends. We've been friends for years. It's great when you do a movie with a person who you know so well and trust so much and in the process are able to make two great girlfriends."
"The character became such an icon for what she was and she was so brilliant at it that I would never want to take it and copy it," the actress added about her character. "Because I wouldn't be able to, nor do I think anyone could ever do that, and so you try to take the character and you try to reinterpret it and give it reason as to why they became who they became and once you have the reason and the honesty behind it, then the character takes on its own vision."
The film also features Zach Braff, Abigail Spencer and Bruce Campbell.
"Oz: The Great and Powerful" is set for release on March 8, 2013. Check out the trailer for the film and interviews with Kunis and Franco below.
