Seth MacFarlane, who is set to host the 2013 Oscar ceremony, on Sunday, February 24, is opening up about how he prepared for the tough gig. The 39-year-old actor, best known as the creator of "Family Guy" and voice of characters such as Peter Griffin and Brian the dog, explained to OTRC.com's George Pennacchio why the Oscars audience is one of the toughest in town. "It's a balance because you want an audience at home that wants a, you know, they want a show," he explained to OTRC. "They want good jokes. And you have a room that's relatively thin-skinned - it's a room that's nervous." "You know, it's funny because the Oscars audience is truly the polar opposite of like, the college audience," he continued. "So, it's probably the toughest audience out there ... So if you're too soft, they're not going to give you much. If you're too hard on them, they're going to gasp and turn on you. I expect to have them hating me within the first 30 seconds." MacFarlane, who says he's been preparing for the big night for over five months, is confident that he's ready for the ceremony, saying: "It is impossible for me to have worked any harder than I have in preparation for this show." On October 1, 2012, it was announced that the television series creator would be hosting the 2013 ceremony, marking the biggest hosting gig for MacFarlane and the first time he would appear on stage at an Oscar ceremony. The personality, who is set to take part in a "special" closing musical performance with Kristin Chenoweth, is also co-nominated for his first Oscar. The performer is up for Best Original Song for "Everybody Needs A Best Friend" from his movie "Ted," an R-rated comedy film he directed, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis and features a talking, potty-mouthed, perverted and often hilarious teddy bear.
