Oscar winners 2011: 'The Social Network's Aaron Sorkin wins Writing (Adapted Screenplay)
"The Social Network" screenwriter Aaron Sorkin won the Academy Award for Writing (Adapted Screenplay) on Sunday, marking his first win and first nomination.
He beat Joel and Ethan Coen of "True Grit," Michael Arndt of "Toy Story 3," Debra Granik and Anne Rosellini of "Winter's Bone" and Simon Beaufoy and Danny Boyle of "127 Hours."
"This movie is going to be a soruce of pride for me for the rest of my life," Sorkin said in his acceptance speech.
"The Social Network" is based on the book "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich. Jesse Eisenberg plays Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The movie tells of his rise to fame and his legal battles with former co-founders and associates and is not endorsed by the real Zuckerberg or Facebook.
"The Social Network," which also stars new "Spider-Man" actor Andrew Garfield and singer Justin Timberlake, was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It won four Golden Globe Awards in January, including one for Sorkin and Best Screenplay.
Eisenberg met Zuckerberg for the first time earlier this month, when the actor hosted "Saturday Night Live." The actor said at the 2011 Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon earlier this month that he was nervous about meeting Zuckerberg and had "built up great anticipation" ahead of the encounter (see video of Eisenberg at the luncheon).
Sorkin is most recognized for his writing work on "The West Wing." Sorkin nabbed a BAFTA Award for his work on "The Social Network as well as awards from several film critics associations.
