Oscar winners 2011: Natalie Portman wins Academy Award for 'Black Swan'

02/27/2011 by Corinne Heller

Natalie Portman won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role on Sunday for her role in "Black Swan," marking the actress' first win and second nomination.

She beat Nicole Kidman of "Rabbit Hole," Jennifer Lawrence of "Winter's Bone," Annette Bening of "The Kids Are All Right" and Michelle Williams of "Blue Valentine."

"I am so grateful to get to do the job that I do, I love it so much," Portman said on stage. "I want to thank my parents, who are right there. Darren Aronofsky, you are a fearless leader and visionary. Most importantly, my family, my friends and my love. Thank you so much."

In January, the 29-year-old Israeli-born actress won a Golden Globe Award for playing a troubled ballerina alongside Mila Kunis in "Black Swan," director Aronofsky's thriller about the dark side of the arts.

The movie is set to be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 29.

Portman is expecting her first child with "Black Swan" co-star and fiance Benjamin Millepied. She showed off her baby bump in an off-shoulder, plum-colored Rodarte gown on the red carpet before the Oscar ceremony (see photos of Portman and other celebrities) and a video of Portman).

"Black Swan" was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, but Portman's win marked the only one for the movie. The actress also received an Oscar nomination for her part in the 2004 movie "Closer."

Portman told OnTheRedCarpet.com in late 2010 that her parents were supportive of her role in "Black Swan," which sees her sharing a sex scene with Kunis, but that some parts were tough for her mother to watch.

The actress has also said that starring in the film fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a dancer. Both she and Kunis lost about 20 pounds for their roles.

Portman recently starred in the sex comedy movie "No Strings Attached" with Ashton Kutcher, which she has joked may have made her father happy, and appears in the upcoming fantasy comedy movie "Your Highness" alongside Academy Awards co-host James Franco.

The film features a slew of sexual jokes and a scene that sees Portman in a thong bikini.

Portman plays a warrior who helps a pair of princes, played by Franco and Danny McBride of the HBO series "Eastbound & Down," save a maiden, played by Zooey Deschanel, from an evil wizard, portrayed by Justin Theroux.

The director of "Your Highness," set for release in April 2011, is David Gordon Green, who directed Franco and McBride in "Pineapple Express."
