'Nikita,' 'One Tree Hill' renewed by CW, 'Hellcats' canceled
The CW has renewed its long-running drama series "One Tree Hill" for a ninth season and will also air a second season of "Nikita," while its freshman cheerleader show "Hellcats" has been axed.
CW has not commented on the report by the Hollywood Reporter.
A source close to the matter confirmed the news to OnTheRedCarpet.com on Tuesday, May 17. The Hollywood Reporters also said the CW network also plans to air the new show "Ringer," starring Sarah Michelle Gellar of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." The actress plays a woman on the rub from the mob.
Rachel Bilson, who played Summer on the show "The O.C." also returns to television in the fall with the new CW medical drama "Hart of Dixie."
"Congrats #OTH fans! Keeping your fingers crossed worked! Season9 is officially picked up for 13 episodes! Tune in TONIGHT for the S8 finale!" "One Tree Hill" cast member Sophia Bush said on her Twitter page on Tuesday, May 17.
"Nikita" is a reboot of the spy franchise that has produced films and a previous series. It stars Maggie Q as a runaway former assassin who works to avenge her former employers and Shane West as her love interest.
"Hey look who got picked up for Season 2 ;)" West Tweeted. "@MaggieQ @LyndsyMFonseca @TheRealMsClarke Guess we are going back to Toronto :)"
"Hellcats," which is produced by Tom Welling of "Smallville," stars Aly Michalka as a pre-law college student who joins the cheerleading squad and "High School Musical" star Ashley Tisdale as her friend and team captain. The show suffered from lackluster ratings.
Earlier this month, the CW announced new seasons for "The Vampire Diaries," "Gossip Girl," "Supernatural," "America's Next Top Model" and "90210."
