Nicki Minaj to release 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' album on Valentine's Day 2012, gets Billboard honor
Nicki Minaj says she will release a new album called "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" on Feb. 14, 2012 - next year's Valentine's Day.
The 28-year-old hip hop and pop star, known for her bright, colorful and often quirky outfits as well as her music, announced the news on her Twitter page on Wednesday, November 23, adding that her new record, which marks her second studio album, will contain "all new tracks."
The album follows the 2010 release of her debut album, simply titled "Pink Friday," which contains the bonus track "Super Bass" and the song "Roman's Revenge." The latter features rapper Eminem and references Minaj's angry alter-ego, Roman Zolanski.
Also on Wednesday, it was announced that Billboard has named her the "Rising Star" of 2011. She will receive the award at the organization's "Women in Music" event on December 2 in New York.
The group also honored the title of "Woman of the Year" to country star Taylor Swift, who has often talked about being a big fan of Minaj. She was seen singing along in the audience as Minaj performed at the 2011 American Music Awards on Sunday.
Both singers won awards at the event - Swift was named "Artist of the Year" while Minaj received the honors of Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for "Pink Friday," which has sold more than 1.6 million copies.
Minaj enjoys a diverse audience - she toured with pop star Britney Spears and her fans include children. In October, she appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show to surprise two of her biggest fans - two young British girls whose YouTube video covering the singer's hit "Super Bass" went viral.
