Nick Lachey wants kids with Vanessa Minnillo: 'I gotta start pumping them out' - See Video
Nick Lachey says he's ready for a family.
The singer and "Sing Off" host is gearing up for his wedding to fiancée and television host Vanessa Minnillo. The couple announced their engagement on November 4, but have not revealed a wedding date.
Lachey spoke to OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith about his upcoming nuptials, his desire to start a family and "The Sing Off" in a satellite interview on June 10.
"I just look at myself in this whole thing as being just a big giant support system so I really want it to be her day. It's the bride's day, and I'm just trying to support her through all this, and it will be beautiful," Lachey told Smith about his wedding planning. "We're really enjoying the planning process. I know a lot of times people just jump ahead to the day and forget to enjoy the process, so we're trying to take our time and really enjoy the process."
This will be the second marriage for Lachey. He and singer Jessica Simpson divorced in 2006. The two starred on the MTV reality show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica," which documented their married life together.
Minnillo, who is a former Miss Teen USA and television host of shows like "True Beauty," starred in a music video for Lachey's song "What's Left of Me," which was about his divorce from Simpson.
The 37-year-old also hopes that it doesn't take too long for him to become a father.
"I don't think it'll be too long. You know we both are family people and we, I think we share that," Lachey said when asked when he and Minnillo would try to start their family. "We want to have a family and we're very excited about that, so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't take too long. At least that's my hope. I'm getting up there. I gotta start pumping them out."
Another thing Lachey is excited to start? The new season of his popular show "The Sing Off," a reality voice competition that features a cappella groups. The show was renewed for a third season in February and is slated to air in late 2011.
"We go into production next month on the third season of 'The Sing Off,' and we actually have a full fall schedule pick up so we'll have 12 episodes this year, which we're very excited about," Lachey said.
The show is hosted by Lachey and Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman, and Nicole Scherzinger served as judes for the first two seasons. Scherzinger initially left the show to become co-host of Fox's "The X Factor," however, it was recently announced that she will be replacing Cheryl Cole as a judge on the panel.
"She's moved on and she's going to be a part of 'X Factor' so we certainly wish her the best," Lachey said of Scherzinger. "They're obviously going to replace her with someone else on the panel, I haven't heard who that person will be yet, but whoever it is, I'm sure they'll be great."
The singer spoke to OnTheRedCarpet.com from Great Wolf water park as part of a national benefit water slide-a-thon for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Lachey tells us he's passionate about the organization saying, "I've been affiliated with for the past seven years and one that's just incredibly rewarding."
He adds, "I've had a little brother and watched him grow from a little kid into now a young man. Just the feeling of being able to help a young person kind of shape and mold their life. It's an awesome thing."
