NeNe Leakes 'thankful to be alive' after blood clot scare, shares pics
NeNe Leakes of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" and "Glee" fame was recently hospitalized for blood clots in her lung and says she is "thankful to be alive."
The 45-year-old reality star revealed the news on her website on Tuesday, Nov. 19. She also shared photos of herself from the hospital, include a picture with her granddaughter, Bri'asia, there and on her Facebook page (see below).
"Late last week I wasn't feeling well and was feeling a little short of breath," she said. "I know my body and I know when I should be concerned so I went to the hospital to get checked out. After some routine tests I was diagnosed with blood clots in my lung. I'm told this happened to me because of the constant traveling around the country that I do for my job."
"I'm thankful to be alive as the doctor advised me that most people don't recognize the symptoms of blood clots and don't go to the doctor and that's when the big problems start happening," she added. "Contrary to published reports I did not have a heart attack. I am fortunate to have had a wonderful experience with the doctors and nurses who took care of me. I'm blessed to be home with my wonderful Husband and family!"
She had posted a cryptic photo of herself on a hospital bed, hooked up to an IV line, on Monday on her Facebook page.
"Whoever said IVs don't hurt - is a liar!" she said.
Leakes remarried ex-husband Gregg in June. Bri'asia is the daughter of her eldest son Bryson, 23. She and her husband are also parents to teenage son Brentt.
