Nate Dogg dies at age 41, reports say

Singer Nate Dogg has died at the age of 41, according to reports.

Family members said the singer, whose real name is Nathaniel D. Hale, passed away Tuesday night, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

UPDATE at 11:30 a.m. ET: The cause of death was later confirmed to be complications from strokes Nate Dogg suffered in 2007 and 2008.

Others in the music industry appeared to confirm the news via Twitter.

Rapper Snoop Dogg, tweeted, "RIP NATE DOGG." In another tweet, he said, "We lost a true legend n hip hop n rnb. One of my best friends n a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at poly high where we met."

Nate Dogg rose to fame in the 1990s. He began singing in Long Beach's New Hope Baptist Church choir, but his rap career started when he joined Snoop Dogg and Warren G in the trio 213. He collaborated with many other rappers, including Ludacris and Eminem. Nate Dogg later released several solo albums, including G-Funk Classics Vol. 1 & 2.

"There is a certain void in hip hop's heart that can never be filled.Glad we got to make history together," tweeted Ludacris, who worked with Nate Dogg on the song "Area Codes."
