Natalie Portman addresses 'Black Swan' body double scandal
Natalie Portman has finally addressed the rumors that her "Black Swan" body double did all of the actress' dancing, in a recent satellite interview promoting her latest film "Your Highness."
Portman avoided "entering into nastiness" after professional actress Sarah Lane told the media in March that the actress, who won an Oscar for her role, only did five percent of her own ballet dancing in the thriller.
"I know what went on and we had an amazing experience making the movie and I don't want to tarnish it by entering into nastiness," Portman told OnTheRedCarpet.com and other media outlets. "It's such a positive thing what we get to do. We get to create things and I feel so lucky to be part of that."
Portman remained diplomatic about the accusations while her "Black Swan" co-star Mila Kunis was not as mild-mannered.
"Natalie danced her (expletive) off," Kunis told Entertainment Weekly. "She did do every ounce of every one of her dances... It was more like a safety net. If Nat wasn't able to do something, you'd have a safety net. The same thing that I had - I had a double as a safety net. We all did. No one ever denied it."
Portman, who is pregnant with the film's choreographer Benjamin Millepied's child, said that she was proud of everyone's work and no amount of gossip will ruin the experience of making the movie.
"I'm so proud of everyone's work on the movie and of my experience," Portman continued. "I'll have that forever and so it's nice for me to know about that, no matter what kind of nastiness or gossip is going around."
Millepied, who is Portman's fiancé, told the Los Angeles Times that "honestly, 85 percent of that movie is Natalie."
The movie's studio, Fox Searchlight, said in a statement published in the Wall Street Journal that Lane covered "the more complicated dance sequences" but that Portman "herself did most of the dancing featured in the final film."
Director Darren Aronofsky told Entertainment Weekly: "There are 139 dance shots in the film. 111 are Natalie Portman untouched. 28 are her dance double Sarah Lane. If you do the math that's 80 percent Natalie Portman."
Portman next stars in "Your Highness," the film features a slew of sexual jokes and a scene that sees Portman in a thong bikini.
Portman plays a warrior who helps a pair of princes, played by James Franco and Danny McBride of the HBO series "Eastbound & Down," save a maiden, played by Zooey Deschanel, from an evil wizard, portrayed by Justin Theroux.
"Your Highness," is set for release on April 8, 2011.
