Mr. Moviefone reviews 'Tower Heist,' 'A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas'

11/04/2011 by 'Mr. Moviefone' Russ Leatherman

This week at the movies, it's either feast or famine. For Harold and Kumar, it's probably feast because, you know, they have the munchies. For some ripped-off coworkers, it's more likely famine and they are looking for revenge in "Tower Heist."

A group of Manhattan high-rise employees (led by Ben Stiller) enlist the help of a small-time thief (Eddie Murphy) to rob a Bernie Madoff-like scoundrel who stole their pensions. They're sure he has millions stashed away in his penthouse. So they hatch a plan to steal it all in the ultimate payback. Also featured are Casey Affleck, Alan Alda, Tea Leoni and Matthew Broderick.

The Reel Deal: Shameless, forgettable, but pretty funny. "Tower Heist" is like a good caper. It gets in, gets out and no one's the wiser. I'm in.

The holidays go up in smoke in "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas."

After years apart, Kumar arrives on Harold's doorstep with a very pungent package. And when the high-grade contents catch fire and take the family's prized Christmas tree with it, the friends hit the road to find a replacement and that's just the beginning of another wild, pot-fueled, R-rated misadventure.

The Reel Deal: If you're not a fan of the "Harold & Kumar" movies, don't start now. But, sticking with the tried and true formula of the three B's - booze, babes and bongs - if you enjoy their "high" concept humor, you'll laugh a lot. I'm in.

In limited release, there's "Killing Bono," which tells of two Irish rockers trying to make it big in the shadow of their former classmate, Bono of the band U2.

And Channing Tatum stars in "The Son of No One," where he plays a cop whose career and family are threatened by a dark secret from his past.
