Mr. Moviefone reviews 'This Means War,' 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,' 'The Secret World of Arrietty'

02/17/2012 by 'Mr. Moviefone' Russ Leatherman

This week at the movies, little people are living under the house, Nicolas Cage's head is on fire (which might explain that hair) and two spies are after the same girl in "This Means War."

Yes, it's spy versus spy when the two men realize they've each fallen for the same woman. They agree to play fair, but all the rules go out the window, and they're ready to fight dirty to win her love. Starring are Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy.

The Reel Deal: It's not great, and frankly some of their surveillance techniques are kind of creepy, but the three likable, beautiful stars make the romantic action-comedy a reasonably fun date movie. I'm in.

Nicolas Cage is back from hell in "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance".

In the sequel, we find former stuntman and bounty hunter Johnny Blaze hiding away, believing that his powers are a curse. That changes when he comes out of exile to protect a mother and child on the run from the devil.

The Reel Deal: Well the poster is awesome, and the trailer looks cool, but with no advance screening for critics, I can't take that ghost ride. I'm out.

An acclaimed children's book series comes to life in "The Secret World of Arrietty."

Based on "The Borrowers," Arrietty tells the story of tiny people living amongst us and who only come out to borrow the human things they need to survive. But when a boy discovers Arrietty and her family living under his house, an unlikely and special friendship develops.

The Reel Deal: In the vein of "Spirited Away," it looks great, has a lovely soundtrack, so be prepared for you and the kids to be swept into the beautiful, magically secret world of Arrietty. I'm in.

In limited release, there's "Bullhead," about a roided-out cattle farmer who's facing the consequences of a deal with the mafia. And there's "Undefeated," the underdog story of an incredible season that turned everything around for the Manassas Tigers.
