Mr. Moviefone reviews 'Source Code' and 'Hop'
This week at the movies, the Easter Bunny is having a bit of a crisis, and a secret government program is the only hope of saving millions of people in the sci-fi thriller "Source Code."
A commuter train has exploded in Chicago. Jake Gyllenhaal is recruited for a government experiment that sends him back in time and into the body of one of the passengers. The mission is to find the bombers and stop them before they carry out the attack. The movie costars Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan and Jeffrey Wright and is rated PG13.
The Reel Deal: It's kind of a 20th century "Groundhog Day." Remember that movie with Bill Murray? That was awesome. Anyway, cast is good. Tons of action. You have to buy into it, but if you do, you'll like "Source Code" a lot. I'm in.
A jelly bean pooping rabbit bounces into theaters in "Hop."
Russell Brand lends his voice to the animated star, E.B. He's the son of the Easter Bunny who runs away to Hollywood with dreams of being in a band rather than taking over the family business. Also starring are James Marsden, Hugh Laurie and Elizabeth Perkins.
The Reel Deal: When I saw the ads for this, I thought 'Uh-oh, this has "Chipmunks" written all over it. But it's much more clever and much better than I expected it to be and I think the whole family will have a hoppin' good time. I'm in.
In limited release is the black sorta-comedy "Super," starring Rainn Wilson, Liv Tyler, Ellen Page and Kevin Bacon, about an ordinary man whose wife leaves him for a drug dealer. So he suits up as a homemade superhero in hopes of saving her. It's kinda awesome.
And from the makers of "Saw" and "Paranormal Activity" comes "Insidious," which is about a family who thinks their house is haunted but they soon discover it's their son with the issues. Isn't it always?
