Mr. Moviefone reviews 'Horrible Bosses,' 'Zookeeper'

07/08/2011 by 'Mr. Moviefone' Russ Leatherman

This week at the movies, the "King of Queens" is monkeying around, and we've all had them, and this time the employees are getting revenge - big time - in "Horrible Bosses."

Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis play three friends tired of taking it from their greedy, nasty, sexually-harassing bosses. So what's the logical thing to do in that situation? Quit? Nope. Go to HR? Nope. That's right, hatch a plot to kill 'em. As you may have guessed, the plan turns into one big comedy fiasco. Also starring are Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx.

The Reel Deal: Why is it that every adult comedy now wants to be "The Hangover" when even the new "Hangover" isn't "The Hangover." The cast is game and do their best with the lame material. "Horrible Bosses" isn't horrible, it's just not very good. I'm out.

Kevin James turns Dr. Doolittle in "Zookeeper."

James' life revolves around the zoo animals he cares for, but his stinky job isn't exactly a hit with the ladies. When he decides to leave the zoo for a more manly career, the animals take drastic measures, revealing their ability to talk so they can train him to be the alpha male the women want.

The Reel Deal: If you think the commercials for this movie seem awful, the movie's worse and imagine sitting through an hour-and-a-half of it. Oh, the things I do for you. I'm out.

And in limited release is a much better monkey movie, "Project Nim," about a landmark 1970s experiment in which a chimp is raised like a human child, and the lessons learned from it - which is awesome.

And there's "The Ledge," a thriller in which a jealous husband threatens to kill his wife unless her lover jumps from a high-rise. Now that is a conundrum.
