Mr. Moviefone reviews 'Hall Pass,' 'Drive Angry 3D'
This week at the movies, Nicolas Cage is back from hell and a couple of married men get a taste of the single life in "Hall Pass."
Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis pair up in this Farrelly brothers comedy about two men whose marriages have run stale, so their wives give them a week away to do anything they want without consequences. But it doesn't turn out quite the way they were hoping. Playing the wives are Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate. The film is rated R.
The Reel Deal: First of all, this would never, ever, ever happen. I'm all for suspending disbelief and all, but this ain't happening.
The movie? Typical Farrelly brothers- adolescent humor with a heart and a serious, gross out joke or two. They've had some hits and misses and this one is more hit than miss. I laughed a lot. I'm in.
Nicolas Cage and his hair are back from hell and on a mission to find redemption in "Drive Angry 3D."
Cage breaks out of hell to hunt down a cult responsible for killing his daughter and stealing her baby. He and a vigilante waitress only have three days to catch them before they sacrifice the baby under a full moon. Also featured are Amber Heard, William Fichtner, Billy Burke and Charlotte Ross. The film is rated R.
The Reel Deal: This is one of those movies that isn't even really supposed to be good. It's a throw back, pedal to the metal, ridiculous exploitation flick trying to be nothing more than a gratuitous orgy of blood, sex, cars and carnage. If that's your speed, then drive angry. I'm in.
In limited release: "Heartbeats," which is about two close friends whose relationship is tested as they compete for the affections of the new man in town, and "Of Gods and Men," based on a true story of pacifist monks in Algeria who are taken hostage during a civil war.
