Director Spike Lee is boycotting Quentin Tarantino's new film "Django Unchained," which depicts a black slave's journey to rescue his wife in the pre-Civil War era, adding that slavery in America was a "Holocaust," not a "Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western."
The movie, whose title was inspired by the 1966 Western "Django," stars Jamie Foxx as the title character and is set for wide release on December 25. "Django Unchained" is already stirring controversy over not only its sensitive subject matter, but its repeated use of a racial slur throughout the film. According to USA Today, it is heard more than 110 times.
Dakota Johnson, the 23-year-old daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, shined at the red carpet premiere of "Django Unchained" in New York City on December 11.
The actress, who currently stars on the Fox comedy "Ben and Kate," appeared in a sleeveless red dress, black tights and black patent leather heels. She walked the red carpet with dad Don Johnson, who appears in the film.
Jessica Biel talked to OTRC.com at the November 20 premiere of her biography drama "Hitchcock," admitting that she was initially scared to take on the role of 1950s actress Vera Miles.
"I think it was a bit of a mixture of both, you know, intense excitement because this is a highly coveted project, and something that I was, you know, terribly thrilled to be able to be a part of," Biel told OTRC.com's Tony Cabrera at the Los Angeles premiere. "Working with Helen, and Anthony and Toni - I mean it's just a cast of dreams."
The 26-year-old actress, who stars as Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming biopic, donned a floor-length Donna Dashini gown and was draped with what appeared to be fur at the film's premiere. The gown, which features cutouts and red teardrop beads in each opening, was paired with Nanzo Muzi pumps, and in typical Taylor fashion, diamonds.
