Mitchell Guist of 'Swamp People' dies in Louisiana
Mitchell Guist, a star on the reality series "Swamp People," was pronounced dead on May 14, according to the Associated Press.
Guist fell while aboard his boat near Pierre Part at around 9 a.m. The boat returned to a nearby landing in St. Martin and the reality star was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The cause of his fall is unclear and there is no official word on the cause of death.
His death was announced on the "Swamp People" Facebook page on May 14 at 12 p.m. PT. "Mitchell passed on the swamp, doing what he loved," the statement said. "We appreciate your respect for the Guist family's privacy and hope you join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to his brother, Glenn, and the rest of the Guist family."
"Swamp People" airs on the History channel and is currently in its third season. It features residents of Louisiana's Atchafalaya swamp country during alligator hunting season. Guist appeared on the series with his brother Glenn Guist and the two were "born and raised on the bayou and live entirely off the land," according to their biography featured on the show's website.
