Miss World pageant winner crowned - Find out who won
The 2011 Miss World pageant crowned a winner on Sunday, November 6. It was the 60th anniversary of the competition which returned to London, the location of the first Miss World pageant in 1951.
Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos, was crowned as the winner of the competition. Sarcos, 21, is a human resources graduate, according to the Agence France-Presse, and has a desire to work with children in the future. She beat out 122 contestants. "I believe that the next Miss World should be a woman of responsibility and reason," she said before her big win.
Gwendoline Ruais, Miss Philippines was the runner-up while Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, came in third place. Arcos beat out 112 fellow contestants in total to win the crown. She also won the interview round while Miss England, Alize Lily Mournter, won the beach beauty title. The talent competition was won by Miss Chile, Gabriela Paz Pulgar Luco.
Sarcos lists her hobbies on the Miss World website as volleyball and trekking. She has 12 siblings and currently works for a broadcasting company.
A group of protesters picketed the event outside the location with signs that read "Being a woman is not a competition" and "Sexism is pretty ugly". Next year the competition will be held in Ordos, China.
