Miranda Cosgrove says bus crash was 'extremely scary'
Miranda Cosgrove, a pop singer and star of the Nickelodeon comedy series "iCarly," has opened up about the tour bus accident which landed her in the hospital and forced her to cancel her upcoming concerts.
"Thank u so much for all your messages. They mean so much to me," Cosgrove wrote on Twitter on August 12. "Yesterday was extremely scary & I'm just so happy everyone's gonna be okay."
The 18-year-old and her mother are expected to be discharged from the hospital any day now, According to E! Online. Cosgrove suffered a fractured right ankle and toe during the crash, which occurred on an Illinois highway on the morning of Thursday, August 11, her spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com. She was one of five passengers on the bus.
"Because of this, her tour is postponed until further notice," the spokesperson added.
Cosgrove's tour bus had struck a tractor-trailer that had overturned on the road, blocking one of its lanes, an Illinois State Police official told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
Cosgrove, several other passengers, the bus driver, the driver of the tractor-trailer and two pedestrians who had stopped to help were taken to a hospital following the crash, the police official added.
Cosgrove's mother was among the injured, People magazine reported, adding that she is expected to make a full recovery. The bus driver's injuries were most severe - he had to be cut from the wreckage and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. According to E! Online, he is now in stable condition and is expected to recover.
"This was a life-threatening crash," a source told People. "A piece from the tractor-trailer went straight through the windshield and the driver's arm was sliced all the way through."
Cosgrove began her "Dancing Crazy Summer" tour in mid-July and was scheduled to perform in cities across the United States until October. Her next concert was set to take place on Friday in Wichita, Kansas.
Cosgrove released her debut album, "Sparks Fly," in 2010. On the show "iCarly," Cosgrove plays a girl who hosts an Internet show. She also appeared alongside Jack Black in the 2003 movie "School of Rock." The two reunited in an "iCarly" television film earlier this year.
Cosgrove recently appeared in the music video for indie band Best Coast's "Our Deal" music video, which was directed by actress Drew Barrymore. The video also featured "Kick-Ass" star Chloe Moretz, "Teen Wolf" actor Tyler Posey, "Community" actor Donald Glover and Alia Shawkat of "Arrested Development" fame.
Cosgrove said the experience of appearing in the video, which borrows elements from films like "The Outsiders" and "West Side Story," was "surreal."
"I've been watching Drew Barrymore movies ever since I was really little, so I was nervous to meet her," Cosgrove told MTV recently. "She's really laid-back and she was really excited to be doing the video and super into it. She directed the whole video, which was really cool. It was really surreal."
