Minka Kelly says she wouldn't leave her kids alone with Leighton Meester in 'The Roomate'
Minka Kelly says her co-star in "The Roommate," Leighton Meester was "so creepy" during her performance that she wouldn't leave her kids alone with her, despite the fact that the 30-year-old actress does not have any children.
The thriller, which was released on February 4, follows a possessive roommate (Meester) who makes the people closest to her new best friend (Kelly) "just sort of disappear." But Kelly was impressed by how Meester handled the role.
"I was very excited to see how she [Meester] would do this and I think if it were in the wrong hands, it would be played completely overdone and obvious and you wouldn't care, or you wouldn't be interested," Kelly said in an interview she did on behalf of the film's production company, Screen Gems. "But some of the things that she does, only with her eyes, some of the looks that she gives are so creepy, I wouldn't leave my kids alone with her (not that I have any) and I think that's what you want to get out of this performance. Everything is so subtle and so well done and she's just, she's a pro!"
Despite the terrifying outcome of her new friendship in the film, Kelly believes that Meester's character Rebecca had good intentions in trying to protect her.
"She truly believes that she's protecting me from harm," Kelly says. "She truly believes my ex-boyfriend is in the way and is making me unhappy. He hurt me, so she wants him out of my life. My professor came onto me, he made me upset, she takes care of that. And so there's nothing malicious or evil about it, she's, from the bottom of her heart, believing that she's doing something good."
Kelly is the daughter of former Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay and Las Vegas showgirl Maureen Kelly, who died in 2008. The actress, who is also engaged to New York Yankees baseball player Derek Jeter, grew up in Los Angeles and pursued acting after she graduated from high school. She was voted Esquire magazine's Sexiest Woman Alive in 2010 and previously dated singer John Mayer.
Kelly got her start playing a teenage cheerleader on the drama series "Friday Night Lights" and now portrays a behavioural aide in the NBC show "Parenthood."
The actress also has a role in the upcoming Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston movie, "Just Go With It," which is set for release on February 11, 2011.
