Mindy McCready ordered to return son to Florida, is pregnant with twins
Country singer Mindy McCready has denied she kidnapped her 5-year-old son Zander and revealed she is nearly 7 months pregnant with twins, according to the Associated Press.
A missing person report was filed with police in Florida on Tuesday, November 29, after McCready took Zander from her father's home. After the Florida Department of Children and Families discovered that McCready and Zander were not at her father's home, a judge ruled she must return the boy voluntarily on Thursday, December 1, at 5 p.m. or risk an arrest warrant.
The singer told the Associated Press on Wednesday, November 30, that she is currently in Nashville and will not be able to bring her son Zander to Florida to fulfill the judge's order due to her pregnancy.
McCready said she and her mother have had a long custody battle over Zander after her mother was awarded guardianship him in 2007. McCready was allowed to visit the boy at her father's home.
"I have been fighting the Florida court system to protect my son, and bring him home," she posted on her Facebook page, according to the wire service. She added that she spoke with local police via Skype - something that the agency confirmed.
The 36-year-old singer has dealt with domestic abuse, drug and DUI arrests as well as a suicide attempt since the mid-1990s, after she released her double platinum debut album "Ten Thousand Angels" in 1996.
She was arrested in 2007 for getting into a fight with her mother and resisting arrest. In 2008, McCready was admitted to a Nashville hospital for a suicide attempt after police said she cut her wrists and took several pills. McCready appeared on the third season "Celebrity Rehab" in 2010.
"It is a giant whirlwind of chaos all the time," she told the wire service about her past. "I call my life a beautiful mess and organized chaos. It's just always been like that. My entire life, things have been attracted to me and vice versa that turn into chaotic nightmares or I create the chaos myself. I think that's really the life of a celebrity, of a big, huge, giant personality."
