Miley Cyrus responds to Joe Jonas' weed comment, in NY Times interview

12/26/2013 by Joseph Apodaca

Miley Cyrus has responded to Joe Jonas' recent comments about smoking weed together with fellow Disney star Demi Lovato as teens, in a new interview with the New York Times.

Cyrus rebuffs Jonas' claim that it was she and Lovato who peer pressured Jonas into smoking marijuana, telling the New York Times it was ultimately his choice to make.

"If you want to smoke weed, you're going to smoke weed," Cyrus said to the New York Times. "There's nothing that two little girls are going to get you to do that you don't want to do. I thought maybe he was saying that like it was going to make him look bad---."

"We were so young that it's actually like, 'How did you get peer pressured by me?,'" Cyrus added.

Jonas' claims were originally published in New York Magazine in early December 2013, where he revealed that he lost his virginity at the age of 20 and what led to the October breakup of the Jonas Brothers, in addition to his weed revelations.

"The first time I smoked weed was with Demi and Miley. I must have been 17 or 18," Jonas said. "They kept saying, 'Try it! Try it!' so I gave it a shot, and it was all right. I don't even smoke weed that often anymore."

Lovato, who is vocal about her own struggles and, now, sobriety, responded to Jonas' comments earlier this month, telling E! News she was initially caught off guard, but respected Jonas' courage for being candid.

"Well, first In was like, 'Umm, we need to talk.' And then we talked and I was fine," Lovato said to E! News. "I was like, 'Look, I'm not mad at you but you need to choose your words more carefully next time.'"
