Miley Cyrus has proved, once again, that her reign in 2013 is unstoppable, with MTV declaring her their Artist of the Year.

This comes amid news that she is also among 10 finalists in the running for Time Magazine's Person of the Year. Cyrus is also one of Barbara Walters' 10 "Most Fascinating People" of 2013.

An MTV executive said in a statement carried by the Associated Press that Cyrus was an easy choice for Artist of the Year.

"She dominated the music charts and critics' best-of lists while creating some of the year's most memorable moments," said Amy Doyle, MTV's head of music and talent programming strategy.

Cyrus, 21, has indeed enjoyed a successful musical comeback year, with the release of her fourth studio album, "Bangerz," on Oct. 8 (read a track-by-track review). The LP debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, selling 270,000 copies in its first week.

The album features the hit singles "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball," both of which have peaked within the top 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She will release a third single, "Adore You," in January 2014.

In addition to her success on the charts, Cyrus has endured a number of controversies in her attempt to display a more adult-oriented image. The singer, infamously, "twerked" on stage with "Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, in a performance that received widespread commentary and debate. Cyrus has also appeared nude in a number of promotional items throughout the year, including the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and in her "Wrecking Ball" music video.

Cyrus' banner year has raised the eyebrows of several in the entertainment industry, most notably singer Sinead O'Connor, who wrote an open letter to Cyrus, pleading with her to end her wild antics and to not let the music industry use her as a prop. The incident resulted in back-and-worth jabs between the two, with Cryus referring to O'Connor's comments about her as "crazy."

With the success in her professional life, her personal took a blow earlier this year, when the singer called off her engagement with longtime boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. The couple met on the set of their 2010 film "The Last Song," and became engaged in May 2012.
