Miley Cyrus gets a sponsored pig as a birthday gift from PETA
Miley Cyrus got a special gift for her 20th birthday on Friday, November 23 -- a pig ... well sort of.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sponsored a pig named Nora in Cyrus' honor. The pig was rescued by PETA and now lives at the Kindred Spirits Sanctuary in Ocala, Florida, according to a blog post on PETA's official site.
The group was inspired to sponsor Nora in Cyrus' name after the singer and actress spoke about how much she loves pigs during a recent interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." The activist group also credited Cyrus for her previous efforts with animal rights including encouraging people to adopting dogs rather than buy them.
Cyrus Tweeted to the organization about the gift on November 23, writing, "Thank you so much for saving Nora in honor of my bday :) please send photos of the little cutie."
She later added, "@peta oh my pigggggyyyyy! She is so cute I can hardly stand ittttttt!!!!"
PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman told E! News, "PETA knew that sponsoring a rescued pig was the perfect birthday present for a young woman who spends so much time encouraging others to help animals."
Cyrus was recently announced as one of the performers for "VH1 Divas." Other performers include Demi Lovato, Adam Lambert and Jordin Sparks. "VH1 Divas," which premieres live on Sunday, December 16 at 9 p.m. ET.
