Miley Cyrus celebrates 18th birthday
Miley Cyrus, a singer and star of the Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana", turned 18 on Tuesday.
She recently celebrated her newfound adulthood with an early party at a Hollywood nightclub along with her mother Tish, actress Demi Moore and more, USA today reported, adding that at the event, Cyrus was photographed being kissed by 18-year-old Nickelodeon teen star Avan Jogia. The two have not commented.
According to U.S. laws, Cyrus is now allowed to vote but must wait until her 21st birthday to be allowed to consume alcohol. It is unclear if she did so at her party.
Cyrus had told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the 2010 American Music Awards on Sunday that she hopes to spend her actual 18th birthday, and the Thanksgiving holiday this week, in her hometown of Nashville, known as the capital of country music.
Cyrus, a singer and actress, did not specify if she plans to spend the holiday with Tish and her father and "Hannah Montana" costar Billy Ray, who are in the midst of a divorce.
"Hannah Montana is set to end after the current fourth season. Cyrus has said she has outgrown the series and also caused some controversy earlier this year when she showcased a more mature image in performances and music videos, which marked a sharp contrast to her "good-girl" persona seen on the show. The actress and singer acknowledges she has changed since she began filming "Hannah Montana".
Cyrus, who began her acting career when she was 8 years old, is focusing her attention on the big screen. She starred with then-boyfriend Liams Hemsworth in the romantic drama movie "The Last Song" and appears in the 2011 film "LOL: Laughing Out Loud" with Moore and plays a girl who deals with high school romances and friendships as well as overbearing parents.
