Michelle Williams talks about 'intense' R-rated film 'Take this Waltz' (Video)
Michelle Williams says she was initially "terrified" to tackle the R-rated, highly sexual drama film "Take this Waltz," although it was not because of her nude scenes.
The movie, which had a limited release on Friday, June 29, follows a woman, played by Williams, who is happily married to Seth Rogen's character, Lou Rubin. The 28-year-old freelance writer analyzes her five-year marriage while exploring something new with the artist across the street, played by actor Luke Kirby.
"Take This Waltz" received its R rating for strong sexual content, graphic nudity and explicit language. Williams appears naked in several scenes, as does fellow cast member, comedienne Sarah Silverman. Williams has previously appeared nude in several films, such as in the 2010 drama "Blue Valentine."
"It's intense and I hope that it is allowed to maintain the spirit that it was made in, which is not to be sensational or sexual," Williams told OnTheRedCarpet.com in a satellite interview to promote the film.
"It's really talking about aging and femininity and body issues from a woman's point of view, which I was so terrified to do, but also really honored because I haven't really seen it other places, and it feels very real to me," she said. "I'm sure that that's a part of the movie that's kind of hot in comparison to others, but I hope it doesn't detract from other themes and scenes."
The three-time Oscar nominated actress went on to explain how the movie shows that life is truly all about choices.
"It's always going to feel like a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' book. All the paths that you could take, all the options that are in front of you, the people you could be friends with, the job that you could say yes to ... what choice is she going to make? And does she have the right stuff to make the right choice? Does she know herself well enough?"
