Michelle Williams and Jason Segel not engaged, rep says
Michelle Williams and boyfriend Jason Segel did not get engaged during San Diego Comic-Con, the actress' rep told OnTheRedCarpet.com on July 25.
The Australian tabloid Woman's Day reported that the "How I Met Your Mother" actor proposed with a written note, which he hit in a purple bouquet, held by Williams' 6-year-old daughter Matilda.
"It is not true," Williams' rep told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
The actress attended Comic-Con to promote her upcoming film, "Oz: The Great and Powerful" and while she was on the west coast, Segel was photographed walking hand-in-hand with Matilda in Brooklyn, New York.
The pair have been romantically linked for about four months and have been spotted holding hands together in Brooklyn and Los Angeles.
Segel confirmed the relationship on an episode of "Extra" in April, saying, "I think we would just very much like to be happy. That's all I'm going to say about it."
The "How I Met Your Mother" actor was also seen holding his iPhone with photos of Williams taped on the back and the phrase "I love you" reportedly written around the photos.
Williams attended the premiere of Segel's recent film, "The Five-Year Engagement." The 32-year-old actor co-wrote the film, in which he stars opposite Emily Blunt. The movie follows a couple who keep delaying their wedding, but the actor joked that he would theoretically do the opposite.
"My plan is to get her to marry me as quickly as possible before she finds out who I really am," Segel joked to People. "I'll do it romantic, but I'll do it like over a three-day weekend. We'll meet on Friday, have our first date on Saturday, engaged on Sunday and married on Monday."
Segel has been previously linked to his "Freaks and Geeks" co-star Linda Cardellini. Michelle Williams was previously engaged to the late Heath Ledger, who is the father of Matilda. Ledger died at age 28 in 2008. She was then linked to director Spike Jonze.
Segel is best known for his role as Marshall Eriksen on the comedy "How I Met Your Mother" and for films like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "I Love You, Man" and "The Muppets."
Williams was recently nominated for an Oscar for her role as Marilyn Monroe in the film "My Week With Marilyn." She won a Golden Globe for her work in the film. She has also starred in films like "Blue Valentine," which also earned her an Academy Award nomination, "Brokeback Mountain" and "Shutter Island."
Williams will next star opposite James Franco in "Oz: The Great and Powerful." Watch a trailer for the film, which hits theaters on March 8, 2013, below.
