Michelle Obama to guest star on an episode of 'iCarly'
First lady Michelle Obama is set to appear in an upcoming episode of "iCarly," according to a statement by the show's network, Nickelodeon, obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com.
Obama will be on the show to bring awareness to her initiative, dubbed Joining Forces, which helps support and honor the nation's military families. The organization was the creation of the first lady and Vice President Joe Biden's wife Dr. Jill Biden.
Carly Shay, the lead character in "iCarly" played by actress Miranda Cosgrove, is the daughter of an Air Force Colonel serving overseas. According to the network's statement, Michelle Obama's daughters are fans of the show.
The episode, which Reuters reports will be shot next week and is set to air in early 2012, will feature a storyline where two of Carly's friends arrange a webcast for Carly and her father after they learn he is not able to make it home for his birthday.
The first lady will talk to Carly about her service to America as a member of a military family and thank her friends for supporting her during her father's deployment.
The show "iCarly" features Cosgrove, 18, as a girl who hosts an Internet show. The show started in 2007 and has featured guest stars like Jack Black, Jim Parsons and Jane Lynch. Michelle Obama has made television appearances on "Sesame Street" and "Iron Chef America: The Series."
