Michael Rosenbaum to reprise Lex Luthor in 'Smallville' series finale

Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor on "Smallville," has confirmed that he will be reprising his role for the two-hour series finale on May 13, according to TVLine. "I'm delighted to return for the series finale," Rosenbaum told TVLine. "I'm simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is. I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness, and even their threats. Ha ha." "Smallville" follows a young Clark Kent as he struggles to find his place and learns to harness his alien powers in Smallville, Kansas in the years before he becomes Superman. Rosenbaum has not appeared on the CW show since May 2008, for the season 7 finale. With the show in its tenth season and final season, the show's executive producers, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson felt it was important to bring back Lex leuthor. "It feels like the stars are aligning, literally. We couldn't be more excited. And as far as the way he returns," Souders and Peterson said in a statement released on Friday night. "There'll be no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent's life. He is the villain of the story." Rosenbaum currently has a recurring role on the Fox comedy, "Breaking In," which stars Christian Slater and premieres on April 6. Catch the series finale of "Smallville" on Friday, May 13 at 8 p.m. ET on CW.
