Michael Kors weds partner Lance LePere

Designer and "Project Runway" judge Michael Kors recently married his longtime partner Lance LePere in New York, weeks after the state legalized gay marriage. Kors, 52, and Lance LePere, 40, tied the knot on Tuesday on a beach in Southampton, New York, fashion magazine Women's Wear Daily reported, adding that the town's mayor performed the private ceremony. In June, New York passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage, becoming the sixth and the largest state to do so. Earlier this month, Kors and LePere were spotted getting their marriage license in New York City. The designer also announced his intention to marry his partner in their home state. The two met in 1990, when he LePere was intern for the Michael Kors company in Paris. LePere is now a creative director at the fashion label. Kors' designs have been worn by celebrities such as Jennifer Garner, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Lopez, Rachel McAdams, Jennifer Garner and "Project Runway" host and supermodel Heidi Klum. Kors has been a judge on the reality show since its 2004 debut. An Independent Democratic Conference report has said that New York's economy would likely grow by about $284 million as a result of the gay marriage legislation, according to a Reuters news wire report. It said that within the next three years, an estimated 21,000 local gay and lesbian couples would marry and nearly 42,000 other same-sex pairs would travel to the state for destination weddings.
