Michael Douglas told the press at the Berlin premiere of "Behind the Candelabra" on Monday, Sept. 2, that things between himself and his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, are "just fine."

When asked a question about his marriage by a member of the press at the premiere, Douglas replied, according to The Associated Press, "I have a crisis at home? No, I think the press has a crisis. We, we are fine. My wife and I are, are fine. We take a temporary separation, but the press, it gives you stuff to write about."

Reports of Douglas and Zeta-Jones' separation began on Aug. 28, when several outlets reported the two were splitting up. However, a spokesperson for the actress said in a statement the two were just spending time apart.

"Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage. There will be no further comment," Zeta-Jones' rep said in a statement to OTRC.com.

Douglas, 68, and Jones, 43, wed in November 2000 and have two children together -- a 13-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.

People magazine reported that the two are "taking a break" and also quoted a source as saying that "the stress has taken a toll on their marriage." The actors have been challenged by health and other personal issues over the years including Douglas' battle with throat cancer and Zeta-Jones being treated for bipolar II disorder.
