Melissa Gilbert of 'Little House on the Prairie' files for divorce
Melissa Gilbert, an actress best known for her role as Laura on "Little House on the Prairie," has filed for divorce from her husband Bruce Boxleitner.
The two had been together for 16 years and announced their separation in March. They were last seen together at a public event in mid-December, when they attended the premiere of the film 'TRON: Legacy' in Los Angeles. Boxlietner, who is also an actor, portrayed Alan Bradley, aka Tron, in the film.
The actress cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce petition, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on August 22, OnTheRedCarpet.com recently learned. The papers state that the couple separated in January, shortly after their 16th wedding anniversary.
Gilbert, 47, is seeking joint custody of the couple's 15-year-old son Michael, who was named after Michael Landon. Landon played Gilbert's character's father on th "Little House on the Prairie" and died in1991 at age 54.
Gilbert also has a 22-year-old son from her marriage to Bo Brinkman, which lasted between 1988 and 1992. Boxleitner, 61, has two sons from his marriage to Kathryn Ogilvy.
The actress' younger sister, Sara Gilbert, announced on Wednesday that she and longtime partner Allison Adler had broken up after ten years together.
The former "Roseanne" actress and Adler will share custody of their two children -- son Levi Hank, born to Adler in October 2004 and a daughter, Sawyer, born to Gilbert on August 2, 2007.
