Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Boxleitner break up
Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls on the show "Little House on the Prairie" in the 1970s and 1980s, and husband Bruce Boxleitner have split after 16 years of marriage.
The two were last seen at a public event in mid-December, when they attended the premiere of the film 'TRON: Legacy' in Los Angeles. Boxlietner, who is also an actor, portrayed Alan Bradley, aka Tron, in the film.
"We have loved each other for a very long time and we share four incredible sons together," Gilbert, 46, said in a statement carried by People magazine. "On behalf of our family we ask to be allowed our privacy during this very difficult time."
The actress and Boxleitner, 60, have a 15-year-old son named Michael, who was named after Michael Landon, who played Gilbert's character's father on the series. Landon died in1991 at age 54.
Gilbert also has a 21-year-old son from her marriage to Bo Brinkman, which lasted between 1988 and 1992. Boxleitner has two sons, ages 30 and 25, from his marriage to Kathryn Ogilvy, according to People.
Last year, Gilbert underwent back surgery and appeared in the touring musical "Little House on the Prairie."
