Mel Gibson defended by Whoopi Goldberg Well, at least Mel Gibson has someone in his corner. Just before the third audio recording of another expletive-filled rant was posted on the Internet Tuesday, The View host Whoopi Goldberg defended the star.

I dont like what he did here, but I know Mel and I know hes not a racist, she said on the program's "Hot Topics" segment on Monday. I have had a long friendship with Mel. You can say hes being a bone head, but I cant sit and say that hes a racist having spent time with him in my house with my kids. I cant say it.

She continued, I dont like what hes done.  Make no mistake.

Meanwhile Goldberg's View co-host Joy Behar said on The Insider Tuesday, "Barbara [Walters] would not allow him [Mel Gibson] on the show. Barbara's Jewish, he's an anti-Semite, he's a racist ... so he's done."

Goldberg is referring to the first alleged tape of Gibson and ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva who were reportedly involved in a heated exchange as part of an ongoing custody battle, which sparked condemnation from the NAACP for the alleged racist remarks against African Americans Gibson is said to have made in his reported rant against Grigorieva. The two, who broke up in April after a one-year relationship, filed restraining orders against each other recently.

Meanwhile, Gibson has reportedly been dropped by his agency William Morris Endeavor Entertainment amid the tape scandal, the recent death of his agent and his investigation.
