Matthew Morrison enlists Gwyneth Paltrow for duet on upcoming album
On the album, which is set for release on May 10, the two will team up to cover "Over the Rainbow," which is the song the actor sang for his "Glee" audition. Morrison also sang the "Wizard of Oz" number on the first season finale of the hit show, with his co-star Mark Salling (who released his solo album, "Pipe Dreams" in 2010), Morrison accompanied himself on the ukele in both instances.
"People kind of know me for that song now," told Entertainment Weekly. "I wanted to do a duet with a female. I thought that was a good song to do, and we really did a different arrangement of it. It's a lot of strings, and it's beautiful."
Morrison and Paltrow are currently dating on Fox's "Glee" and performed Prince's "Kiss" on the March 8 episode. Paltrow has also covered Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide," Cee Lo Green's "Forget You" as the upbeat substitute teacher, Holly Holliday.
Paltrow showcased her singing skills in her recent film "Country Strong" and at the Oscars and Grammy Awards and was recently rumored to be in talks to record a country album with Atlantic Records, which her spokesperson denied to OnTheRedCarpet.com.
Morrison said that he was nervous asking others for favors in his solo album but did reach out to Elton John and NSYNC member JC CHasez, who did a duet on a song called "Dancing in the Rain."
"The hardest part of doing this album was asking these people favors, like Elton [John] and her," Morrison told EW. "I'm so not that guy."
In addition to Paltrow and John, Morrison also has 'NSYNC member JC Chasez lined up for a duet on a song titled "Dancing in the Rain."
Morrison said that he was trying to go a different direction from "Glee" with his song, which describes a couple making love on a rooftop in the rain.
At a recent PaleyFest event for the show, Morrison joked that the cast of "Glee" should sing "some Matthew Morrison songs on the show."
Morrison spent about ten years on Broadway before joining the cast of "Glee" He told OnTheRedCarpet.com that he hopes that his upcoming album, which will be released in May, will appeal to the eclectic "Glee" audience.
"The music career is something I've always wanted to do but I think that 'Glee' is really afforded me the opportunity to really put that out there," Morrison told OnTheRedCarpet.comin January. "It's very personal to me, I wrote a lot of the songs that are on the album and I'm just really proud of it, I hope people dig it."
