Matthew Modine, two others confirmed for 'The Dark Knight Rises'
"The Dark Knight Rises" cast has grown steadily since January and three more actors were added this week, including "Full Metal Jacket" actor Matthew Modine.
According to Variety, Matthew Modine, Tom Conti ("Reuben, Reuben") and 11-year-old actress Joey King ("Ramona and Beezus") have signed on to join the cast of "The Dark Knight Rises" under director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale.
Fittingly, Modine is best known for playing Private Joker in Stanley Kubrick's 1987 Vietnam War flick, "Full Metal Jacket." In "The Dark Knight Rises," Modine will play a character named Nixon, but further details have not been released.
Modine will next appear in the HBO movie "Too Big to Fail" as Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain. He will also appear opposite Eva Mendes in "See If I Care" and in the indie "Family Weekend," with fellow "Dark Knight" cast mate Joey King.
Conti is best known for his Oscar-nominated role in the 1983 film "Reuben, Reuben." He recently appeared in "The Tempest" opposite Helen Mirren.
King most recently appeared in the action flick "Battle: Los Angeles" and played Ramona in "Ramona and Beezus." She also stars in Amanda Peet's new NBC series, "Bent."
In April, it was announced that Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt had signed on for the third film.
According to the statement from the studio carried by the Associated Press, Oscar-winner Cotillard will play a character named Miranda Tate "a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father's philanthropic endeavors for Gotham."
Levitt, who was reported by Variety in March to play Alberto Falcone, the son of major crime boss and "Batman Begins" villain Carmine Falcone, is actually playing "John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon," according to the studio's statement.
Both actors have worked with Christopher Nolan before in the 2010 film "Inception" and will join their fellow "Inception" co-star Tom Hardy who will play as the villain Bane, an escaped convict who gains superhuman strength due to a series of drug experiments.
It was confirmed in mid-January that Anne Hathaway will star in "The Dark Knight Rises" as Selina Kyle, whose alter-ego is Catwoman. In the DC comic books, the character is the love interest of Bruce Wayne, who masquerades as the superhero Batman.
"The Dark Knight Rises" is set for release on July 20, 2012.
