Matthew Fox of 'LOST' confirms DUI, denies hitting woman
Matthew Fox of "LOST" has opened up about his recent legal troubles - confirmed his DUI arrest and denied hitting a female bus driver.
"I was terribly embarrassed by that," Fox told Ellen DeGeneres on "Ellen" of his DUI offense. "I really own that and have done every single thing the state of Oregon requires for a first-time DUI offender."
The 46-year-old actor was arrested and charged with drunken driving in Oregon, according to the Associated Press. Police say Fox, who lives in the city of Bend, was stopped early on May 4 after an officer noticed he failed to signal properly and stay within a lane of traffic.
The officer determined Fox was driving under the influence and took him to the Deschutes County Jail. He was released later that day after he was booked into custody.
"I have learned a ton. I did four weeks of alcohol informational training. And just learned an enormous amount," Fox said of his experience.
In August 2011, Fox was detained on suspicion of punching a female driver of a party bus in Cleveland, Ohio. The prosecutor's office later decided not to charge the actor.
"She was a woman that was in proximity to that, and she decided that she was going to write up a different version of events that happened that night and try to extort money from me, that was what went down," Fox told DeGeneres of the incident.
"I was going to let the courts resolve it on that end, and then I knew there would be a time down the road where I got an opportunity to tell the truth," the actor added.
The 29-year-old driver, Cleveland resident Heather Bormann, had told police that in the early hours of August 28, the 45-year-old actor tried to board the private party bus she was driving and asked her for a ride to his hotel.
Bormann said the actor smelled of alcohol and that she told him that that vehicle was rented out and blocked the entrance to the bus. Bormann told authorities that Fox began to punch her in the chest and stomach area. She said she fought back, punching Fox in the mouth and causing a cut on his lip.
At the time, Fox was filming the movie "Alex Cross," a thriller which stars Tyler Perry and "Conan The Barbarian" actress Rachel Nichols. The movie is slated for release on October 19.
Fox is known for playing Jack Shephard on the ABC series "LOST." He is also known for playing Charlie Salinger, a family's oldest brother and guardian, on the FOX show "Party of Five," which ran between 1994 and 2000.
Fox will also appear in another film set to hit theaters next year - "World War Z" with Brad Pitt. The film is set to be released on June 21, 2013.
