When "Doctor Who" returns from hiatus on August 27, fans might be in for a shock as their favorite Time Lord appears to save Adolf Hitler in the midseason premiere.

"It's going to be a real barn stormer," series star Matt Smith, who plays the Doctor, told OnTheRedCarpet.com at Comic-Con on July 23. "There's a great monster in it. Obviously, Hitler is in it -- which is kind of fun."

The episode is called "Let's Kill Hitler" and a trailer for it can be seen below. "We go to Nazi Germany just before the advent of the war in a very mad and Doctor Who-ey sort of way," Smith explained.

"I'm very proud of it, I think it's one of my favorites so far," he added. "The whole latter part of the season is really strong."

The show's executive producer, Steven Moffat, told Entertainment Weekly about the episode at the recent Television Critics Association press tour.

"I think we can unequivocally say we're against Hitler," Moffat assured the magazine. "I think the worst thing you can do to that awful man is take the mickey out of him on 'Doctor Who.' Don't worry, we're not going to save Hitler."

"Doctor Who" holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-running science fiction series in the world. The original run of the show was from 1963 to 1989. The series was later relaunched in 2005. The character has been played by 11 actors and Matt Smith took over the role as the titular doctor in 2010.

"Let's Kill Hitler" will air on BBC America on August 27. Check out the trailer for the episode below.
