Martin Lawrence to star in 'Bad Boys 3'?

Martin Lawrence to star in 'Bad Boys 3'?Bad Boys 3, the third installment in the hit cop movie series that starred Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, is in the works and is expected to be released in 2012.

"We're talking about it," producer Jerry Bruckheimer told MTV in May. "Will Smith came up with a terrific idea for a screenplay, and we've been working on a script, so we'll keep our fingers crossed. Will would love to do it, and I think Martin would too."

Lawrence, who recently wed longtime girlfriend Shamicka Gibbs, has said the idea of Bad Boys 3 was "realistic" and told MTV in April: "I met with Michael Bay, and he said he's onboard too  so it's real. I got Big Willie to come down and see me about the movie. I felt special. We're just waiting on Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it's really real."

Bay, who is currently making Transformers 3, directed boy Bad Boys in 1995 and Bad Boys 2 in 2003 and is named as the director of Bad Boys 3, according to preliminary cast lists and Peter Craig has already begun to write the script.

Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 made a combined total of $414 million worldwide and $204 in box office sales in the United States.

Lawrence recently starred in the comedy film Death at a Funeral with Chris Rock. He is currently filming another comedy movie, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, which hits theaters on Feb. 18, 2011 and The Skank Robbers with Jamie Foxx, set to be released on Aug. 11, 2011.

Smith has more than two dozen movies in development and preliminary cast lists show they include I, Robot 2, Hancock 2 a sequel to the recent Karate Kid remake, which stars his son Jaden, as well as two sequels to the hit 1994 blockbuster Independence Day, although he has not confirmed his participation.

Smith can next be seen in Men In Black 3, begins filming in New York on September 13 and is set to hit theaters on May 25, 2012. It was reported May in that Josh Brolin has joined the cast.
