Mark Wahlberg, brothers open Wahlburgers restaurant
Wahlburgers, the hamburger restaurant co-owned by brothers Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg, is open for business.
The 120-seat eatery is located in Hingham Shipyard, MA, near their hometown of Boston. It officially opened its doors on Tuesday, October 25. A day before, the brothers and their mother, Alma, attended a red carpet launch.
"Had dinner, at @Wahlburgers with the fam & @andersoncooper on Saturday- amazing guy!" Donnie Wahlberg Tweeted. "I think he took Oprah's place as my moms favorite! :)""
Pictures of the Wahlberg brothers are featured prominently inside the restaurant. Mark Wahlberg is known for his acting projects, such as "The Fighter" and "The Departed," and is a former member of New Kids on the Block, Donnie Wahlberg's all-male pop group. Paul Wahlberg is a chef and also operates an Italian restaurant called Alma Nove, which is located in the same shopping area that houses Wahlburgers.
Among the food items offered on the Wahlburgers menu are a Thanksgiving burger, which is described as "Thanksgiving leftovers on a bun" and consists of "fresh, ground, seasoned turkey, stuffing, Paul's orange cranberry sauce, roasted butternut squash and mayonnaise" and a BBQ Bacon Burger, described as "a spiced up weekend barbeque on a bun, turkey or beef topped with bacon, avocado, jalapenos, white cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce."
Hot dogs are also on the menu and sides include Tater Tots, Sweet Potato Tots, Yukon Golden Fries and onion rings. Future offerings include a Salmon Burger, a Mushroom Burger and "boozy adult frappes," according to the restaurant's Twitter page.
"We're creating a secret sauce for our burgers!" says a Tweet from the eatery, posted on October 11. "Do you like to add a special sauce to ur burgers? We promise we won't share your secret ;-)"
Months before the opening of "Wahlburgers," the Wahlberg brothers cleared a legal hurdle by licensing the eatery's name from upstate New York chain Tom Wahl's, which had trademarked the word "Wahlburger" for one of its menu items. The company's vice president said in August that his group now has the opportunity to profit from the deal.
