Mariah Carey drops Randy Jackson as her manager, report says

05/09/2013 by Kristina Lopez

Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson are reportedly parting ways professionally outside of "American Idol."

Carey has dropped Jackson as her manager, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jackson, along with Irving Azoff, began to represent Carey in November 2011. Azoff represents talent like Christina Aguilera, Jewel, Journey and The Eagles.

The news outlet also quotes an unnamed source who claims that Carey had been looking for new management and that Jackson was a temporary replacement.

Jackson had previously worked with Carey when she was signed to Columbia Records. He produced and co-wrote several of her songs as well as played bass for the singer during her tours and in the studio.

News of the switch comes amidst a tough time for "American Idol," which has seen its ratings fall 22 percent this season, according to a previous report by The Hollywood Reporter. The show has also had to deal with a few arguments between Carey and fellow judge Nicki Minaj.

As for Carey's career, the singer recently released a new single called "Beautiful," which features Grammy winner Miguel. The music video for the single will premiere on "American Idol" on Thursday, May 9.
