Marg Helgenberger to leave 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' in January
Marg Helgenberger, who has played crime-scene investigator supervisor Catherine Willows on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" for 11 seasons, is set to leave the series in January.
The actress initially intended to leave last season, according to The Hollywood Reporter, but was convinced to come back by executive producer Carol Mendelsohn so that the character could get a proper send off.
"The combination of that info and me having a hard time letting go of this show and this group of people, I said, 'Yeah, I'm not done playing this character; I'm not done letting go of this group of people," Helgenberger told the industry paper at the Television Critics Association Press Tour on Wednesday.
Mendelsohn said the actress will appear on the series until episode 12. "People come and go and come back, so hopefully when we say goodbye, that won't be the last time we see her," she told the newspaper.
Back in May, Helgenberger made headlines when she described Justin Bieber as being "kind of a brat" when he appeared on "CSI" early last season to play troubled teen Jason McCann.
"He was very nice to me," she explained. "But he locked one of the producers in a closet. And he put his fist through a cake that was on the craft service table," the actress told French radio show "Le Grand Direct des Médias."
Bieber's character met his end in February when he was gunned down by several officers including Nick Stokes, played by George Eads. Bieber appeared in two episodes of the long running drama.
The teen singing sensation responded to her comments shortly after the story broke.
"It's kinda lame when someone you met briefly and never worked with comments on you," Bieber wrote on his official Twitter page on Monday. "I will continue to wish them luck and be kind."
In July it was reported that original cast member Jorja Fox was returning to the show as a series regular in the fall to reprise her role as Sara Sidle.
Fox had been a regular on the show for the first seven seasons of the series before leaving at the beginning of season 8. She returned to the series periodically for guest appearances since then.
It was previously reported that Ted Danson has signed on to the long-running drama series to replace Fishburne, who left the series in June.
The 63-year-old actor will play the role of a new CSI Supervisor for the graveyard shift at Portland's crime lab on the show, which is the most-watched TV series in the world.
"You can create a new character on the page, but until the perfect actor comes along and breathes life into it, it's just words," Mendelsohn said in a press release. "We're very excited Ted Danson came along."
