Mandy Moore 'Tangled' in Disney 'family tree'
Mandy Moore plays a modern Rapunzel in Disney's 50th animated movie "Tangled", which opened on Wednesday, and is happy to join the Disney "family tree".
On top of voicing the female lead, Moore also sang five songs on the film's soundtrack, including "When Will My Life Begin" (which had two reprises), "I've Got a Dream," "I See the Light," "Healing Incantation," and "The Tear Heals."
"It's kind of mind-boggling to me, really crazy, cause I grew up loving "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin" and "Beauty and the Beast," the singer told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the recent Los Angeles premiere of "Tangled". "To somehow now be included in that same family tree is so, so cool."
Moore says that she didn't have much difficulty chanelling her character, who is a tomboy version of the Grimm fairy tale princess.
"I think it was just trying to understand her plight and this idea that she's lived somewhere for 18 years, she's never been outside, she's never experienced the real world or anything and how that must feel," the actress said. "But it doesn't really change her, she's still an open, non-judgemental, ready for whatever meets her on the outside world. I think she's fearless, sort of, in the face of the unknown. I think that's a very admirable quality, for young women especially."
Moore's last big movie role was in 2007's "License to Wed" and in March 2009, she was granted just that when she got married to singer Ryan Adams. Though the couple doesn't have any children of their own, Moore told E! News that doing a Disney movie certainly got her in the mood.
"I'm a married lady, and one day, I will definitely have a family. When you do a film like this, I think that thought crosses your mind- that one day you'll be able to show your kids that you were in an animated Disney film!"
