'MacGyver' movie reportedly in the works, James Wan in talks to direct
"MacGyver" fans might be able to rejoice over some recent news that a film based on the popular 1980s TV series that starred Richard Dean Anderson is in the works.
Variety reports that New Line is working on a film and is in talks with horror film writer/director James Wan to direct. Wan directed the original "Saw" film as well as the 2007 film "Death Sentence" and the 2010 movie "Insidious."
The industry paper also reports that a script was drafted by Jason Richman, who wrote films like "Swing Vote," "Bangkok Dangerous" and "Bad Company" as well the TV series "Detroit 1-8-7," but that no details of the plot were made available.
"MacGyver," ran on ABC from 1985 to 1992 with Anderson playing Angus MacGyver, a resourceful agent that used non-violent methods to resolve his problems and refused to carry a gun.
The series led to two made-for-TV movies in 1994 and there was also a spin-off television pilot based on the series in 2003 called "Young MacGyver" that starred "Supernatural" actor Jared Padalecki. It never made it to air.
