One Direction made a huge debut at the 2012 Video Music Awards on Thursday, September 6. The boy band from Europe not only performed for the first time on the VMA stage but also walked away with three awards for the night including Best New Artist.
The band also won the first award given out for the night, Best Pop Video and also won a moonman for Most Share-Worthy Video during the pre-awards show.

Comedian Kevin Hart to host MTV Video Music Awards and appeared in a promotional video for the event, with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
In the video, Hart tries to get Kardashian and Kanye to join forces with him to create the new "it" couple, "KevYeKim." When the pair acts incredulously, he suggests they shorten their name to "KKK" and asks Kardashian if she has a white hoodie.
The nominees for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were announced on Tuesday, July 31, and singer Rihanna and rapper Drake lead the pack with five nominations each.
Both Rihanna and Drake are up for the big prize of "Video of the Year" with Rihanna getting two nods in the category for her single "We Found Love" and for her work on Drake's single "Take Care." Drake also got additional nominations for "Best Hip Hop Video," "Best Male Video" and "Best Art Direction.

A tribute to Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears' big honor, Beyonce's baby bump, performances by Lady Gaga, Adele, Kayne West and Jay -Z made the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards an event to watch and that is just what audiences did.
This year's award ceremony drew in a record of 12.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched telecast in the history of the network, according to the Associated Press. The audience was up 9 percent from last year's ceremony where Lady Gaga donned her infamous meat dress. This year the singer dressed up as her male alter-ego Jo Calderone and stayed in character throughout the entire night.
Though Beyonce nearly stole the show with her big pregnancy announcement, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Adele came away as the big winners of the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
Spears nabbed a moonman for Best Pop Video and was honored with an MTV Video Vanguard Award. Katy Perry received an award for "E.T.," her collaboration with Kanye West.
First it was "American Idol," now Adam Levine is calling out MTV and its Video Music Awards.
The Maroon 5 lead singer wrote on his Twitter page Saturday, "The VMA's. one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I'm drawing a line in the sand. [expletive] you VMA's."
Katy Perry is the top artist to beat at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The "California Gurls" singer nabbed nine nominations in categories like Video of the Year and Best Female Video for "Firework," Best Collaboration for her work with Kanye West on "E.T." and Best Pop Video for "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)."
Beyoncé is set to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28, the network announced on Wednesday.
"We are thrilled to have Beyoncé return to her rightful musical home at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards," Amy Doyle, executive producer of the 2011 MTV VMAs and MTV's EVP of Music & Talent said in a statement. "Her performances at the VMAs are legendary leaving everyone breathless and talking for days. We can't wait to see her set the stage on fire once again!"
Selena Gomez is set to host the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show on August 28, the network announced on Friday.
"I am very excited to be a part of the 2011 VMAs! After all of my years watching the VMAs, the pre-show has always been one of my favorite parts. It is a true honor to be hosting from the black carpet this year," Gomez said in a statement to MTV.
