Lucy Hale talks about the 'even more epic' mid-season finale of 'Pretty Little Liars' (Video)
As "Pretty Little Liars" cranks up the drama for its mid-season finale on August 30, star Lucy Hale, who plays Aria on the series, says the episode will be "Even more epic" than the finale last season.
"What's so great about the show is that we keep topping ourselves," Hale told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith during a set visit on August 22.
"Pretty Little Liars" is about four girls, Hannah (Ashley Benson), Aria (Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchel) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario), whose lives and friendships come undone after the mysterious murder of their group leader Allison. A year after Allison goes missing, the group begins to receive messages from an unknown person going by the name of "A" threatening to expose secrets only Allison could've known.
The successful television series is based on the wildly popular book series of the same name by Sara Shepard. The show has been described as the "Desperate Housewives" for the teen set.
The past few episodes have been quite a ride for Aria. Her parents reconciled, her brother began stealing and started suffering from depression and her boyfriend Ezra Fitz -- who also happened to be her English teacher -- left her school to teach at a local college.
Just when things started looking up for Aria and Ezra, who could finally hold hands in public for at his college campus, Ezra's ex-fiancée came back into his life and Aria began developing feelings for her dead best friend's older brother, Jason.
In "I Must Confess," the episode that aired on August 23, the girls get tired of carrying the secret of "A"'s harassment and finally tell their therapist, Dr. Sullivan, about their troubled existence under this mysterious person.
"'A' is a very angry person and that doesn't go over so well," Hale told Smith about the groups confession to Dr. Sullivan. She adds about the upcoming episode, "They're used to being punished by 'A' but this they're punished separately. They're each given a task to complete or something really bad is going to happen."
"At the end there's going to be mud, there's going to be us dressed in dresses," she teased. "Sort of a play on the [show's advertising] poster."
As for the identity of "A," Hale didn't reveal too much but she does share her theory. "It seeming like it could be a big group, this like secret 'A' society. It could be one person, it could be a guy a girl, it could be one person," she said.
So what's next for Aria and Ezra? Well, it seems like Jason's not a threat, at least for now.
"They decided they're going to tell her parents," she said. "It's very crazy how it all goes down."
The mid-season finale of season two of "Pretty Little Liars" airs on August 30 on ABC Family. ABC is the parent company of OnTheRedCarpet.com.
