Lisa Kudrow cast in 'Scandal' season 3

Lisa Kudrow has been cast on "Scandal" for the show's upcoming third season.

The 50-year-old former "Friends" actress will appear in a recurring role as a politician, according to Deadline.com.

Other details about her character and the date of her first episode on the show were not available. ABC confirmed the report to OTRC.com.

Kudrow's producing partner, actor Dan Bucatinsky, has a regular role on "Scandal." He plays reporter James Novak, the husband of Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry). Bucatinsky is nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role on the show.

Together Kudrow and Bucatinsky served as executive producers on "Web Therapy," which Kudrow starred in and Bucatinsky also had a recurring role, and "Who Do You Think You Are?"

Though known for her comedic work, Kudrow has tackled dramatic roles in the past in films like "Wonderland."

"Scandal" season 3 premieres on ABC on Oct. 3 at 9 p.m.
