Lisa Edelstein leaves 'House M.D.,' won't return for season 8
Lisa Edelstein, who plays Dr. Lisa Cuddy on "House M.D.," has left the FOX medical mystery series and will not appear on its upcoming eighth season in the fall, her spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
FOX had announced last week that that show, which stars Hugh Laurie as misanthropic Dr. Gregory House, Cuddy's love interest, had been renewed.
"After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead," Edelstein's spokesperson quoted the actress as saying in a statement made to OnTheRedCarpet.com on Tuesday, May 17.
Spokespeople for FOX had no immediate comment. There were many factors that led to the 43-year-old actress' decision, the spokesperson added, without elaborating. The Hollywood Reporter had said Edelstein refused to take a salary cut at the request of the show's producers. Her contract was set to expire at the end of the current seventh season, which ends on May 23. Cast members Omar Epps and Robert Sean Leonard, on the other hand, had agreed to having their salaries reduced and will return to "House M.D.," the trade publication said. The actors have not commented.
Producers had asked the actors to take salary cuts and Edelstein refused, while the others agreed, the Hollywood Reporter said.
"Twitter friends, I am reading all your kind thoughts and it feels great to have such support," Edelstein said on her Twitter page on Tuesday. "You are the best!"
"House" debuted in 2004 and also stars Olivia Wilde and Jesse Spencer. Each episode usually sees House, an expert at diagnosing rare or complicated medical conditions, and his team using unconventional methods to cure patients with conditions he deems "interesting" while deciphering the person's expected lies.
Laurie has been nominated for an Emmy five times for his role on "House M.D." The show has earned four Emmy Awards, including one for writing for creator, writer and executive producer David Shore
Jennifer Morrison, who played Dr. Allison Cameron, another character who was once interested in House, left the show in 2010. She currently stars as Snow White's long-lost daughter in the new ABC show "Once Upon a Time" (see a full list of new ABC shows set to air in 2011 and 2012).
