Lindsay Lohan won't face battery charges

Lindsay Lohan will not face charges following a battery investigation that was launched after she was accused of engaging in a scuffle at a rehab center, officials say.

Police had said in January that the 24-year-old actress engaged in a violent confrontation with an employee at the Betty Ford Center, where she underwent treatment for substance abuse. A spokesperson for the District Attorney's office in Riverside County, where the facility is located, said on Tuesday, March 29, that no charges will be filed against Lohan due to insufficient evidence.

The actress has served several stints behind bars stemming from a 2007 drunk driving and drug possession case conviction and is currently on probation.

She is also awaiting a April 22 hearing on another case - the alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace from a Los Angeles area jewelry store. Lohan recently rejected plea offers and maintains she is innocent. During the hearing, prosecutors are expected to present evidence against her and determine if there is enough to warrant a trial. Also, a judge is set to determine if she violated her probation. If it is decided she had, she could return to jail.

Lohan is accused of stealing the necklace from Kamofie and Co., a store located in the Venice area of Los Angeles on Jan. 22, three weeks after she was released from court-ordered rehab. She had in the past pleaded not guilty to a charge of felony grand theft.

Lohan's three stints behind bars have each lasted 84 minutes, 14 days and 15 hours - the last of which occurred in September after she failed a drug test and wrote about it on her Twitter page.

Her father, Michael Lohan, is also facing his own legal problems. On Wednesday, he was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence two days after he was arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.</p
